It's never too soon to get your children into the magical world of books. It is a good starting point for them to begin a love affair with reading as they enter the "Magic Tree House". Fantastic. This is such a wonderful series to use with beginning readers, first to second graders. Take it from a Reading Coach - I would highly recommend it.

I came on to write an honest review because there are so many that praise this series and I am glad to see there are people who realize how important correct grammar and syntax are in children's literature. I really thought I was alone due to the bizarre popularity of these books. What in the world were the editor and author thinking. With the MTH books being such poor examples of grammar, sentence structure, and story development, what these children are learning (or un-learning) is detrimental. They are a terrible example for children learning to write. I am a first grade teacher and I beg you to NOT get any of these books. One of the many strategies I teach my students to use while spelling and writing is to ask themselves, "Does it look right." because so much of what is taught is reinforced by exposure and experience. They should be ashamed.

One of them had asked for a chapter book so he was pleased and I really want to encourage them to read while they are young. My Grandsons were really tickled with these books. Great gift.

It also does the grand trick of being engaging for both boys and girls.My son enjoyed the first 12 in order and now enjoys skipping around through the rest of the series. Plus the facts used in the book almost always cause a desire for further research and you can't complain about books that make your kid want to KNOW MORE. For a mix of educational and fiction with a lot of fun you cannot beat Magic Treehouse. The books are easy enough for a 2nd grade reader to read alone but the stories are complex enough to streetch them into the next reading level.

I decided to see how my son would take to chapter reading and he is hooked on these. We quickly moved to 2 chapters a night and he often asks me to keep reading.

Glad there are options like this as examples to kids that reading can be fun. I change some "violent" words, like when Jack says about Annie: "I'm gonna kill her".and talk about the Knights weapons, dinosaurs eating people, etc.

He gets a bit bored on the pages with no pictures, but I think it is quickly teaching him to listen to the words and that he can make up the pictures in his head instead. I have the first 2 sets and 2 more on my son's Christmas list.

My son is almost 4 and not reading yet, but I remember my mom reading chapter books to me from as young as I can remember. Along with his preschool appropriate books, I read one chapter a night from these.

A bit much in my opinion, but mild enough for older kids to understand and correctly process.
